Hello! and welcome to the USS Heimdal's website.
The Heimdal is a chapter of Starfleet, the international Star Trek fan association with chapters throughout the United States & in many foreign countries. |

| Starfleet membership is required in order to belong to the USS Heimdal but you only pay national dues with Starfleet. Heimdal dues consist of one canned good per month which we include each year in a Christmas donation to our local Food Bank. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Although Starfleet is primarily geared towards Star Trek, the Heimdal is as diverse as her many members; we focus on Star Trek plus science fiction in general. Our members are animal lovers, avid readers & collectors, & have wide & varied interests which are shared with our membership at meetings, during presentations, at parties & group functions. We believe we have something for everyone.
The Heimdal's members are nurses, foremen, sales people, secretaries, students, teachers & social workers, among other occupations. We are teenagers, parents, persons in the active work force, retirees & grandparents. Each is appreciated for his/her "gifts," what they share with our group & the fact that all enjoy Star Trek, science fiction & helping the less fortunate in our area. |

| Monthly meetings are announced through regular publication of our newsletter which informs members of meeting locations, group functions, meeting guests & themes, & general information about the activities of our chapter. Meetings usually consist of a guest speaker, presentations (such as rappelling down mountainsides!) & watching Star Trek and / or science fiction movies & films. Special events include a day spent at the lake, having a gaming night, our annual Chili Fest, Annual Crew Auction, Halloween Costume Party & Christmas Party / Buffet. Last year we were able to get the majority of our membership certified in CPR at a meeting planned for that purpose led by a trained CPR instructor. | ||||||||||||||||||||||

Although Heimdal members go to conventions, do costuming, have regular get-togethers with other chapters in our region of the country & generally have a wonderful time, we have been & continue to bededicated to community service within the | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Lynchburg/Amherst County area. Since the Heimdal's conception in 1984, we have regularly supported a welfare child at Christmas, continue to work with & donate pet foods to Lynchburg & Amherst Humane Society shelters, sponsor an Angel Tree child & senior citizen at Christmas, support, through annual donations, the Amherst County Library, & work with the Salvation Army Food Pantry. In 1999 we were able to send two area gifted math students to Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama. All our "adopted" charities are funded through car washes, bake sales, raffles & auctions.
We extend a special invitation to all interested individuals to attend two of our meetings without obligation. This will give you an opportunity to see what we're all about, meet our membership & have a fun evening. |

STARFLEET is the fan organization with something for everyone. Members the world over are united in appreciation of the human adventure that is Star Trek. Hundreds of chapters throughout the world link members to local fandom activities, as well as the central organization. Annual membership begins with a membership package containing membership card, certificate, handbook and listing of chapters. In addition, your membership in STARFLEET includes six (6) issues of the Communique, the bi-monthly publication which contains news and information on STARFLEET operations, chapter activities, convention information as well as news related to the space program. |
